Grupo Barosa: a European Food Supplement Manufacturer with Three Specialised Plants

When a brand is choosing a supplement manufacturer, the first two numbers on the table are almost always the unit price and the minimum order quantity. What rarely gets asked, and matters far more once the brand starts to grow, is how much real industrial capacity sits behind that manufacturer. This week the Spanish newspaper Ideal put figures on exactly that, for a Granada-based group that many brands already work with in one form or another, even if the corporate name is less familiar: Grupo Barosa.

What is Grupo Barosa?

Grupo Barosa is a Spanish industrial group, founded in 2020, that brings together three specialised companies covering food supplements, nutraceuticals and sports nutrition manufacturing, with its own logistics centre and commercial offices in Asia and the Middle East. According to the report published by Ideal on 27 July 2026, the group now generates more than €12 million a year in revenue and employs 60 people, close to 80% of them women, many in senior leadership roles. That growth started only six years ago, in a small unit at Granada’s Health Technology Park, under founder and CEO Juan Pedro Pérez.

Three companies, one shared capacity for contract manufacturing of food supplements

Grupo Barosa’s growth is not built on a single plant, but on three specialised companies covering different parts of the manufacturing chain:

  • Barosa Labs (Armilla, Granada): development, manufacturing and innovation in food and nutritional supplements.
  • Akumal Sport Nutrition (Peligros, Granada): sports nutrition for fitness and wellness brands. You can read more about Akumal Sport Nutrition, the group’s sports nutrition company, and how it applies this same industrial capacity to sports brands.
  • Natucaps (Consuegra, Toledo): brought into the group to strengthen encapsulation and manufacturing for the nutraceutical sector.

That deliberate specialisation lets each company optimise its own processes, controls and certifications, rather than trying to run every format through a single line.

The new Santa Fe plant: more capacity as a food supplement manufacturer

The most relevant figure in the report for any brand currently evaluating manufacturers is the new plant the group is developing in Santa Fe (Granada): 3,000 square metres, built specifically to expand the group’s production capacity for custom manufacturing of food supplements. That expansion comes alongside Akumal’s new plant in Peligros, which starts operating in September 2026 and doubles that subsidiary’s capacity, placing it among the first facilities in Spain audited for anti-doping assurance for athletes.

The group’s CEO frames the reasoning behind this sustained investment simply: brands choose to work with the group for its technological capability, the speed with which it develops new projects, and its commitment to the client — not for the lowest starting price.

Grupo Barosa in numbers

  • Over €12 million in annual group revenue.
  • 60 professionals on staff, close to 80% women, many in senior roles.
  • Three specialised companies: Barosa Labs, Akumal Sport Nutrition and Natucaps.
  • An in-house logistics centre for order fulfilment.
  • Two international commercial offices, in Shanghai (China) and Dubai (UAE).
  • A new plant in Santa Fe (Granada), 3,000 square metres, to expand food supplement capacity.

In-house encapsulation and logistics: the advantage of an integrated food supplement CDMO

Part of why Grupo Barosa can present itself as a food supplement CDMO able to support brands at different growth stages is that it brings together, under one group, capabilities many manufacturers have to outsource: in-house encapsulation through Natucaps, a range of galenic forms and packaging options, and an in-house fulfilment centre that manages finished-product distribution directly. For a brand, that means fewer intermediaries, fewer points of failure, and more room to negotiate lead times once order volumes grow.

A European group with three plants, not a single laboratory

For a brand outside Spain, or outside the EU, weighing a single laboratory against a group like this, the difference is not just size. The group already works with major clients across several countries, supported by its two international commercial offices, and by 2027 plans to enter new markets, with animal nutrition as one of the areas it is prioritising, alongside further work on innovative galenic forms and delivery systems. It is a pattern that fits the group’s usual approach: build industrial capacity first, then use it to enter markets where that capacity is the real differentiator against smaller manufacturers.

What this growth means if you’re looking for a food supplement manufacturer

For a brand evaluating manufacturers, what matters is not that Grupo Barosa made the news — it’s what that coverage confirms about its real capacity. An additional 3,000 m² plant under construction, three specialised companies already operating, and an international commercial structure are not typical of a small manufacturer, and they are exactly the kind of assurances worth requesting in writing before signing with any supplier: number of plants, installed capacity, and a contingency plan if volume grows faster than expected.

If you’re developing or scaling a food supplement brand and want to understand the real capacity available for your project, at Barosa Labs we can support you from formulation through to large-scale contract manufacturing.
